US public companies file thousands of current reports (8-K) and quarterly and annual reports (10-Q, 10-K) every week. We count how many mention each theme below, so you can see what boardrooms are worried about, and how that is changing, before it reaches the headlines.
Each week runs Monday to Sunday. For every theme we search the full text of that week's 8-K, 10-Q and 10-K documents on SEC EDGAR for the exact phrase, then divide by every document of those forms filed that week. Exhibits count as separate documents, which is why we report shares rather than raw counts.
Filing volume swings hard around earnings season, and 10-Qs and 10-Ks carry more boilerplate than 8-Ks. The year-over-year change compares the same week twelve months apart, which cancels most of that out. Recent weeks are re-counted daily for two weeks while EDGAR finishes indexing late filings.
